This year Albatros joins ROTM again after their succes three seasons ago. Let's see what the expectations are this year.
From OCM Magazine:
"..... an introduction to the captains of this years Race of the Minutemen.
Gilbert Roogaars
Nationality: Dutch
Team: Albatros
Speciality: climbing
Chances: a few top nines, a result maybe "
The tour started of dramaticly with a 81th spot in the opening ITT for the team's captain. This put Roogaars well behind the competition and it would seem hard to try to make up for it in the later stages. In the second stage wich is meant for hillsprinters Roogaars did much better and came in as 19th. Then in the two climbing races he came in as 6th (after winning that race three years ago) and 9th in the King's stage wich got him in the top 10 of the GC. With these results he showed he could still compete with the best going uphill. Unfortunately he unexpectedly underachieved in the Climbing TT with a dissapointing 32th spot. This all resluted in an 11th spot in the GC.
A special remark should be made for teammate Marten Lowik who did really well with a 13th spot in the GC. Who knows how far he would have gotten if he would have been leading the team.....
